Counting Blessings
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Life doesn’t always hand us moments that feel “thank-worthy.” We face struggles, disappointments, delays, & even deep pain. Yet Paul reminds us that gratitude isn’t dependent on our circumstances—it’s rooted in the unchanging goodness of God.
When we give thanks, we are not pretending everything is perfect; we are proclaiming that God is present in every situation. Gratitude shifts our perspective from what is lacking to what is lasting. It keeps our hearts soft, our spirits lifted, & our faith anchored.
Choosing gratitude doesn’t mean denying hardship—it means recognizing that even in hardship, God is working for our good (Romans 8:28). It’s a declaration that we trust Him more than what we see & that is the place we’ll find true joy & contentment.
When I’m battling discouragement or discontentment, the old hymn often comes to mind … “Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your many blessings, see what God has done.” Naming our blessings has a way of humbling us before the cross. You just can’t name your blessings & stay discontent!
A heart full of gratitude changes perspective … it really changes everything. Let’s count our many blessings together today. Please know that you are one of mine!
With love,
Mandy
